Hello there Sandy, I am sorry to hear you have been experiencing speech problems, unfortunately this is quite common with having Fibromyalgia. There are many symptoms we can experience but each case tends to be different and no two people tend to be the same.

If you click on the link below it will take you to an article from our main site at FibroAction, it explains about various symptoms which may be helpful to you, along with the passage I have copied below regarding speech -

www.fibroaction.org/Pages/W...

"Cognitive dysfunction is a common problem with Fibro and is nicknamed "Fibro-fog". This can include difficulty in understanding something, difficulty in making decisions, memory loss, problems with concentration, difficulties in speaking coherently and remembering words and problems with typing or writing."

Also we can suffer from what is called 'Fibro Fog', where we literally feel foggy and can forget the simplest things.

Any queries you may have on this, please do not hesitate to ask, we are always happy to try to help where we can.

If you are particularly concerned about any symptoms, it is always worth having a chat with your GP and mentioning your concerns for reassurance but also to ensure that your symptoms aren't related to anything else.

Take care. (((hug))) xxx

Hi Sandy

I add to what Libs said, sometimes our meds can make you a bit gaga, I know mine do :-) I talk rubbish sometimes and completely forget what I am saying mid sentence.

Piggy hugs to you xxxxxxxx

Absolutely right Piggie, thanks for adding this! :) I have one night time medication that makes me feel all floaty, so thank goodness I don't take it during the day!

If you have any concerns about your meds and their possible side effects Sandy, please mention this to your GP.

Thanks again Piggie xxx

I have that problem too sandycat. It feels as if I'm slurring and uncoordinated. I find I have a problem getting the 'right' words out too. It is so much worse when I'm feeling particularly exhausted. Now I just bite the bullet and let people know I'm a fibro sufferer, and if they look at me blankly, then I swiftly mention ME and that seems to do the trick!! It's surprising how supportive people are when they have a small amount of personal info. It also makes conversation less embarressing. I've had fibro for quite a while now and have learned that rest and quality rest, is a must in controlling the affect it has on my body. I hope that this helps sandycat. But this is something you should talk over with your GP, just to be on the safeside Good luck! S x

Hi Sandycat

As people have already mentioned this sounds like the typical symptoms associated with 'fibro fog' when mines kicks in I find my self unable to hold a coherent conversation, I forget common words and often sound like im slurring my speech. It can be a wee bit embarrassing but friends collegues and family have got used to it and often help me refocus and finish my sentences.

Please remember to check all new symptoms with your Gp first to rule out any other causes, this is very important, we must never assume every new symptom is fibro related.

Take care and I hope you doon get to grips with this new challange my best tip for overcomming it is to maintain a sense of humour and laugh it off:-) hope this helps
